A Bespoke Gas Fire Pit in Auchterarder: Project in Focus
1 May 2026
A circular gas fire pit, built into a bespoke natural stone and sandstone coping surround, set on a hilltop site above Auchterarder with views across the Strathearn Valley to the Highland boundary.
The finished fire pit, its curved timber bench following the arc of the windbreak screen.
The construction
The fire pit is 2.4 metres in diameter, built on a solid concrete foundation using blockwork, finished with Perthshire stone and Denfind coping. The coping sits flush to give a clean silhouette against the skyline and is wide enough to serve as seating.
LPG cylinders are concealed in a purpose-built ventilated store behind the bench, sandstone base, block retention, and a cladded finish matched to the seating. Nothing of the infrastructure is visible from the fire pit itself.
Concentric paving alternates sandstone flags with a border course, radiating out to define the seating zone.
The curved timber bench is bespoke, built to follow the arc of the windbreak screen, providing integrated seating for the full width of the space.
Perthshire stone walling finished with flush Denfind coping, wide enough to sit on.
Construction was carried out by Landscaping by Wallace, with final gas connection by a certified gas engineer.
The burner system
Supplied by Urban Outdoors, the installation uses:
UF950RCS Signature outdoor burners (twin burner configuration)
Symax remote-control electronic ignition
Bespoke galvanised steel burner tray, custom-made to the 2.4m circular form
Stainless steel flexible gas supply tubes
LPG conversion kit
Bespoke circular weather cover
The Symax remote handles ignition and flame height from a distance. At full output the flames spread across the entire bed, the effect in these photographs is exactly how it performs in use.
Why gas
Wood fires on an exposed hilltop create sparks and embers in wind. Gas delivers immediate, adjustable heat at the touch of a button and on a clear April evening above Auchterarder, with the sun dropping behind the Highland boundary, that is what you need.
Immediate, adjustable heat at the touch of a button,no sparks, no embers.
